The Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta was held for the first time in 2009, and has since been an annual affair drawing crowds of all ages, ranging from toddlers to grandparents. This is because the festival not only attracts hot air balloon enthusiasts but provides a host of other activities and fun-filled side events so that the whole family can participate.

Over the last three years, the festival has received overwhelming response not only from the Malaysian public, but also throngs of international tourists who flock to Putrajaya just to attend the event.

Besides hot air balloon related activities, some of the other side attractions which will be featured in the 2012 fiesta include a street touch rugby tournament for families, a bicycle fest around Putrajaya, watersport activities, an "extreme sports zone", a kids play area, as well as F&B vendors.

The annual event has seen a year-on-year increase in the number of visitors. In 2011, the event received more than 250,000 visitors and this figure is targeted to reach 300,000 in 2012.

To maximize participation from visitors, the organizers of the Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon festival have persevered to make the event free to attend for the public, with a minimal charge for some of the activities. However, to maintain such an extensive scope of activities, the festival welcomes corporate sponsors to participate in the festival.
